Content can be copied from any course where you have Editing or Copying rights, into any course where you are an Instructor. You can choose to copy all contents or only certain pieces.

Note: Starting in Fall 2024, there is a new process for copying content into live semester shells. Instructions can be found here:

All live courses should have their content initialized from a model using Guided Copy. The "Copy All" process outlined in this guide can still be used to copy content into Model courses, and the "Selected Copy" process can be used to move specific items into your course mid-semester.

Option 1: Copying an entire course

  1. From the new, empty course shell, click Course Admin at the top.
  2. Under the Site Resources heading, choose Import/Export/Copy Components.
  3. Several importing and exporting options will be presented. The first option, "Copy Content", will be selected by default. Click the Search for Offering button.
  4. A pop-up window should appear. with a search field to let you find the course you wish to copy from. In the Search For field, type a course code or title and press Enter.
  5. An example where an instructor has chosen the Spring 2018 section of TURT1080 - Introduction to Turtles to copy from
  6. Locate the course you wish to copy from, click the bubble beside it to select it, and then click Add Selected.

  7. You will be returned to the previous screen. Click Copy All Components to proceed. The copy process should take a few minutes.

Option 2: Copying selected components

If you only wish to copy a few items from another course, you can use the Copy Selected Components process. Note that you must be VERY careful when using this process-- take special care not to hit the wrong button at step 7 below, or you could end up damaging your course.

  1. From the new, empty course shell, click Course Admin at the top.
  2. Under the Site Resources heading, choose Import/Export/Copy Components.
  3. Several importing and exporting options will be presented. The first option, "Copy Content", will be selected by default.
  4. Important: Take note of the two buttons at the bottom of this screen. We will be back on this screen in a few minutes, and it is VERY IMPORTANT that you do NOT click the blue "Copy All Components" button at that time.

  5. Click the Search for Offering button.
  6. A pop-up window should appear. with a search field to let you choose the course you wish to copy from. In the Search For field, type a course code or title and press Enter.
  7. An example where an instructor has selected to copy Content and Discussions from another course. They've chosen to copy all of the discussions, but picked the option to select individual Content items instead of copying the entire Content area.
  8. Locate the course you wish to copy from, click the bubble beside it to select it, and then click Add Selected.

  9. Click the white Selected Components button at the bottom.
  10. Select the checkboxes beside any types of content you wish to copy.
  11. If you wish to copy only some of that type of content (e.g., only two out of the course’s ten available quizzes), also choose “Select individual items to copy” underneath that content type.
  12. Click Next.
  13. If you chose to “Select individual items to copy” for any content types, a screen appears allowing you to select available objects you wish to copy. Check the applicable boxes using the [+] icons to expand as needed.
  14. Click Continue and then Finish.

The copy process takes from a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on the size and complexity of the copied material. If you encounter any problems while copying your content, contact eConestoga Support at x3187.

Copying another instructor’s content

If you wish to copy content from another instructor’s course, you will need to have that instructor enroll you in their course with either “Instructor” or “Copy Access” rights. Refer the other instructor to the Guide to Enrollments & User Roles for details.

If the owner of a course you wish to access is no longer with the College, please have your department Chair send an e-mail to eConestoga@conestogac.on.ca, listing your name and employee number, and the course code, semester, and section you wish to access.
