Delete Grade Items
If you wish to delete a Grade Item from your course, and that Grade Item is not connected to any assessment objects in the course, the process is fairly quick:
- Go to Course Tools -> Grades.
- Go to the Manage Grades tab.
- At the top of the screen, click More Actions -> Delete.
- Check the boxes beside any grade items you want to delete. If the grade item you wish to delete can't be selected, see the next section of this guide.
- Click Delete at the bottom of the screen.
Deleting Connected Grade Items
If the system won't let you check the box beside a Grade Item, that is likely because that Item is connected to an assessment object in your course (usually a Quiz, an Assignment folder, or a Discussion Topic). The system won't let you delete connected Grade Items, so you'll first need to edit the assessment object and disconnect it from the Grade Item.
Disconnecting a Quiz:
- Go to Course Tools -> Quizzes
- Click the drop-down arrow beside the quiz and choose Edit
- Open the Assessment tab
- Set Grade Item to None
- Click Save and Close
Disconnecting a Discussion Topic
- Go to Course Tools -> Discussions
- Click the drop-down arrow beside the discussion topic's title and choose Edit Topic
- Open the Assessment tab
- Set Grade Item to "--Choose a grade item--"
- Click Save and Close
Disconnecting an Assignment Submission Folder
- Go to Course Tools -> Assignments
- Click the drop-down arrow beside the folder and choose Edit Assignment
- Locate the field currently labelled In Grade Book and change that value to either Not in Grade Book or Reset to Ungraded
- Click Save and Close
Once you've disconnected the assessment object from the grade item, it should become selectable in the Course Tools -> Grades -> Manage Grades -> More Actions -> Delete menu.
