Guided Copy Process
The Guided Copy Process helps instructors copy content into their live course shell from a matching model.
Notes before copying:
- Instructors do not need to be enrolled in a model in order to copy from it.
- Merging: If you are planning to merge your courses, you should do that before copying content, and then copy content into the Merged shell. If you aren’t planning to merge, you can proceed with copying.
- Resetting: Guided Copy will not copy content into a course that already has content. If content was already loaded into your course, but you wish to copy newer or different content from a model, please contact eConestoga@conestogac.on.ca, provide your course Code, Semester, and Section, and ask for your course to be reset.
Using the Guided Copy Process
When you visit the homepage of any empty live course where you are enrolled as an instructor, you will see a new splash page:
To start copying, click Copy Model. The next screen you see will depend on which models are available.
A) A perfect match is found:
In most cases, you will be presented with a screen informing you that a matching model has been found:
To copy from the model, click Begin Copy.
B) A model with a different delivery length is found:
If no model is found that perfectly matches your course’s length, but one or more models are found that match your Course Code, Version, and Delivery Mode, those other models will be shown.
If one of those models is close enough to fit the course you’re delivering, you can choose to copy its content.
Examples where this option might be useful:
- You are teaching a 15-week course, but it spans across the Winter holidays, and thus “looks like” its length is 17 weeks. The 15-week model would be correct to copy from.
- You are teaching a 3-week variant of a normally 15-week course, with a “one week per day” schedule. A 3-week model hasn’t been built yet, but you are prepared to copy from the 15-week model and make adjustments.
If you don’t see a model that feels appropriate for the course you’re delivering, you should reach out to your Chair and let them know. Your Chair’s name and contact information will be listed at the bottom of the page.
C) The model is under construction
A new feature we've given to instructors who manage model courses is an "Under Construction" button. They can use this to mark any model as Under Construction until a specified date. If any other instructor tries to copy from a model that is Under Construction, they will see this message:
If you see this message, you will need to wait until the indicated date to return to your course and copy content from the model.
D) No matching model is found
If no model is found that matches your Course Code, Version, and Delivery Mode at all, you will see this screen:
If you don’t see a model that matches your course, you should reach out to your Chair and let them know. Your Chair’s name and contact information will be listed at the bottom of the page.
Once you start a copy, it will go into a queue before being processed. Your course’s homepage will update with your position in queue, and then inform you when the copy is complete.
After the copy is complete, you will be directed to the Course Launch Checklist, which guides you through important updates that should be completed before your course starts.
