Copy a Quiz
This guide outlines a process to duplicate an existing quiz and make it available only to specific students in your course. This is useful when creating a supplemental exam, or if a student in your class requires changes to the quiz' settings or structure as an accessibility accommodation.
Duplicating a Quiz
- Go to Course Tools -> Quizzes.
- Click the drop-down arrow beside the quiz' title and choose Copy.
A duplicate quiz will be created, and you will be taken directly to its editing menu.
Restricting a Quiz to Specific Students
Next, we will use Special Access to make the quiz visible only to select users.
- From the editing menu for the quiz, open the Availability Dates & Restrictions block on the right side.
- Under the Special Access heading, click Manage Special Access.
- A pop-up will appear. Select the second bubble, labeled “Allow only users with special access to see this quiz”.
- Click Add Users to Special Access.
- Make any needed changes to the students’ Start Date, End Date, and time limit. Then, scroll down and check the box(es) beside the name(s) of the students those settings should apply to. When you’re finished, click Add Special Access at the bottom.
- Back on the Special Access pop-up, click Save and Close.
- Set the Visible toggle at the bottom to an open eye, then click Save And Close.
Once this is complete, you should have a duplicate quiz visible only to the students you selected. If you are creating an accessible version of your quiz, you can now proceed with any required accessibility modifications, such as changing the questions-per-page or allowing students to move back through pages.
Note: If the original copy of your quiz was connected to a Grade Item in your course, the duplicate quiz will not be connected to that grade item, so the marks of any students who complete it will not automatically be transferred to Grades. You will need to enter the quiz grades manually for any students who write duplicate quizzes.
